Deep Dive

Where do I get green energy?

MassEnergize suggests Green Powered, a program from the Green Energy Consumers Alliance (GECA), which is a non-profit founded more than 30 years ago, and they've been connecting their members with local clean energy sources for more than ten years now.

How exactly does green energy work?

For every kilowatt hour that you use, GECA ensures that a renewable energy generator puts enough power onto the grid to meet your usage. They do this by purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs) from a renewable energy generator on your behalf.

You can switch 100% or 25% of your consumption to renewable power. You continue to pay your electric bill as you normally would and will be billed separately, just a few cents extra per kilowatt-hour, for the renewable energy. Moreover, these payments are 100% federally tax-deductible!

Why do we recommend the Green Energy Consumers Alliance (GECA) as a Preferred Partner for green electricity?

We have reviewed a number of options and selected the Green Powered program because it actually increases the share of renewable energy in Massachusetts. They are also a non-profit, and they are local. MassEnergize receives no money from GECA.

Steps to Take

Step 1: Visit Green Energy Consumers Alliance (GECA).

Step 2: Enroll in just 5 minutes! All you need is your electricity account number. Nothing changes with your electricity bill. You will simply get an extra bill which is 100% tax deductible. Please mention that MassEnergize referred you!
